The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George Tebo McArthur, United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date Company C was attacking heavily fortified enemy positions. The lead squad advanced towards the enemy positions, throwing hand grenades at point blank range amidst heavy concentrations of enemy fire. During the encounter, the squad leader was seriously wounded. Private McArthur, a rifleman, immediately moved to the front of the squad and led the men in the assault. Due to several casualties, the squad was forced to withdraw. However, Private McArthur remained in his position and threw hand grenades, inflicting numerous enemy casualties, while his squad withdrew to positions of safety. He continued this action until he became wounded and was evacuated. Private McArthur’s courageous action enabled his unit to reorganize and continue its attack. The gallantry in action displayed by Private McArthur reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
