The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal William John McAllister (ASN: RA-13343531), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 December 1950, in the vicinity of Huksu-ri, Korea, the 2d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, was attacked by an estimated two enemy regiments and forced to withdraw to more strategically located terrain. Corporal McAllister went to the assistance of a wounded comrade forward of his position, in the heat of an immensely heavy fire fight, involving enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire. When last seen Corporal McAllister was shielding the body of his comrade and continuing to fire on the attacking enemy which had overrun the company’s positions. Corporal McAllister’s utter disregard for his own life and concern for the lives of his fellow soldiers reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
