The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Manley Bradley (ASN: 1817652), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Nantillois, France, 5 October 1918. Sergeant Bradley was wounded in the head while leading his platoon across a valley swept by machine-gun fire, but he continued to lead his men on to their objective, refusing to report to the dressing station until he was ordered to do so.
