The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Dalton C. Marris (ASN: RA-12409962), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 11 October 1952 in the vicinity of Chorwon, North Korea. On that date, the 2d Battalion was assigned a special mission of attacking a heavily fortified enemy position. When the company was momentarily halted by a numerically superior enemy force, Private Marris, with complete disregard for personal safety, fearlessly exposed himself to the concentrated fire of the enemy force and led a group of rifleman in a vicious assault toward the platoon objective on the hill. Although receiving a painful face wound in this action, he refused evacuation and continued to lead and direct his group, inspiring the men by his own personal bravery. Although receiving a second wound, he continued to lead and direct the assault until ordered to return to the Main Line of Resistance. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Marris reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
