Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 807 (December 3, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Charles B. Marlin, Jr. (ASN: 0-1325909), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date Company E was attempting to secure vital terrain, which was defended by well-fortified enemy emplacements situated on commanding positions. Captain Marlin, company commander, skillfully maneuvered his troops through the intense hostile fire and personally inflicted numerous casualties upon the enemy, as he advanced. Just short of the objective a grenade burst blew his pistol from his grasp. Undaunted and completely disregarding his personal safety, Captain Marlin continued in the attack, urging his men to follow until he was severely wounded and was forced to be evacuated. The inspiring leadership and gallantry in action displayed by Captain Marlin on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
