The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Albert Charles Brackett (ASN: 67541), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 103d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Marcheville, France, 26 September 1918. Although he was severely wounded, Sergeant Brackett insisted upon continuing his duties. Under severe fire from snipers, machine guns, and artillery, he repeatedly stood up in the open, offering himself as a target for the snipers in order to locate their positions.
