The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Layton Allen Boyd (ASN: 950454), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 2d Engineers (Attached), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Medeah Ferme, France, 9 October 1918. Exposed to enemy sniper and machine-gun fire, Private Boyd went in front of our lines to administer aid to a wounded officer, and also to wounded enemy troops. He also crawled to within 50 feet of an enemy machine gun and assisted in bringing a wounded comrade to safety.
