The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal (Posthumously) to Colonel Douglas C. MacKeachie, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War II. As general purchasing agent, European Theater of Operations, he displayed tireless initiative with unfailing tact in applying his broad business experience to the difficult tasks of procurement. His genius for organization as well as his wide international contacts proved invaluable to the United Nations. His unceasing devotion to duty and extraordinary ability to overcome obstacles contributed materially to the battle readiness of troops from the European Theater of Operations.
