    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant James Machu, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 133d Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on 1 January 1943. Sergeant Machu carried a wounded soldier to safety, with great risk to his own life and in disregard of his own safety.
