The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Angelo P. Macedo (ASN: RA-11174855), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Tank Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950 in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. On that date Sergeant Macedo was a crew member of a tank moving through a long and effective enemy roadblock. In the midst of the roadblock Sergeant Macedo observed several wounded men lying in a ditch beside the road. Unhesitant and under intense, close-range enemy small arms, automatic weapons and grenade fire, he leaped from his tank and ran to the aid of the wounded. He carried them to his tank and later assisted in moving them through the roadblock to a point of safety, thus saving the lives of several men. The gallantry and devotion to his wounded comrades displayed by Sergeant Macedo reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
