The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Captain (Infantry) Otis C. Lynn (ASN: 0-1340671), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Company E, (then Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion), 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division on 24 September 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On this date Captain Lynn’s battalion was attacking a well entrenched and determined hostile force. During this action, with complete disregard for his own safety, Captain Lynn continuously exposed himself to the devastating enemy small arms, automatic weapons and mortar fire, while directing friendly fire on the enemy. On numerous occasions he fearlessly placed himself in positions of extreme danger so as to locate the main source of hostile resistance. Captain Lynn’s efforts resulted in many hostile casualties and enabled the friendly assaulting elements to successfully seize and occupy their objective. The outstanding leadership and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Lynn on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
