The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Tim M. Lujan (ASN: US-28040318), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 October 1951 in the vicinity of Kongnae, Korea. On that date, during an attack on a strongly fortified and well defended enemy-held hill, Sergeant Lujan, as a squad leader, displayed dauntless courage and cool behavior before the enemy. Advancing up the hill his squad was pinned down by intense small arms and automatic weapons fire from an enemy bunker. Realizing the seriousness of the situation and completely disregarding his own safety, Sergeant Lujan assaulted the hostile emplacement. With grenades and his accurate rifle fire he succeeded in destroying the enemy bunker and inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. Returning to his unit he regrouped his men and led them in the successful accomplishment of their assigned mission. The gallantry in action and outstanding leadership displayed by Sergeant Lujan reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
