The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Peter V. Liuzza (ASN: RA-18302624), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 3d Reconnaissance Company, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 10 December 1950, when Corporal Liuzza’s squad was driven off a hill in the vicinity of Sadong, Korea by strong enemy forces, he discovered that two of his men remained on the hill surrounded by the enemy. Corporal Liuzza voluntarily, and without utter disregard for his own personal safety, climbed the hill under enemy observation and fire, found the two men, and aggressively kept the enemy forces at bay while he and the two men made their way to safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
