The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Seferino Lucero (ASN: ER-57463273), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 7 January 1951 near Wonju, Korea. On the morning of that date he was in an outpost which was manned by a reinforced rifle squad. The outpost was surrounded by a large enemy force and the squad was pinned down by heavy hostile small arms fire. Private Lucero voluntarily moved to an exposed position and proceeded to draw the hostile fire upon himself. By this action he diverted much of the enemy fire from his comrades, thus enabling them to effect a safe withdrawal. He remained in position and continued to fire upon the enemy until he was killed by hostile fire. The gallantry and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Private Lucero reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
