The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Gibson Loudin, Jr. (ASN: ER-34725371), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Detachment, 2d Engineer Combat Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 May 1951, near Kaeun-ni, Korea. His unit was moving in convoy when it was ambushed by an enemy force. Many casualties were suffered. In spite of the heavy fire on the road, Sergeant Loudin voluntarily went to the aid of his wounded comrades. Five times he ran the gauntlet of enemy fire to render aid and service. On his fifth attempt he was struck and killed by enemy machine gun fire. The gallantry and devotion to his comrades displayed by Sergeant Loudin reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
