The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Charles T. Livingston (ASN: US-52018382), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 14 October 1951 in the vicinity of Mundung-ni, Korea. On that date, during an assault on a strategic hill defended by a numerically superior enemy force, Corporal Livingston displayed dauntless courage and cool behavior under the enemy fire. As a radio operator, he remained in direct contact with the platoon leader of his unit and relayed vital information to the front line units. Although constantly exposed to hostile small arms, automatic weapons, and machine gun fire, he continued to perform his duties in a fearless manner. When his radio was destroyed by the enemy fire, he immediately secured a rifle and joined the assaulting riflemen, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. His actions were an inspiration to the men of his unit and aided immeasurably to the success of the attack. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Livingston reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
