Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 790 (November 29, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Robert E. Little (ASN: RA-13212136), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 18 September 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On that date during an attack on hostile positions, Company E was ordered to withdraw to more advantageous positions due to the extremely heavy hostile fire. In the course of this action, Sergeant Little learned that a wounded comrade had been left behind and was lying in a position under direct fire from an enemy bunker. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he advanced forward and with his automatic weapon assaulted the hostile emplacement. Although continuously exposed to the intense enemy fire he fearlessly directed his fire into the bunker and succeeded in destroying it, while killing its occupants. Sergeant Little then administered first aid to his wounded comrade and carried him to the safety of a medical aid station. The courageous action and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Little on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
