The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Dale R. Little (ASN: RA-6831769), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 25th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 19 September 1950, Master Sergeant Little’s platoon was attacked by a strong enemy force near Chungam-ni, Korea. When the platoon machine gun was neutralized and the crew wounded by mortar fire he quickly ran to the wounded men, administered aid, and evacuated them to safety. Despite exposure to intense hostile fire and though wounded himself, he crawled back to the weapons, delivered effective fire until help arrived, encouraged and supervised the new crew, leaving only upon direct order. Master Sergeant Little’s courage, resolute leadership and selfless devotion to duty inspired his fellow soldiers and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
