The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Larue L. Lipski (ASN: 0-949518), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 15 September 1950 near Changnyong, Korea. On that date Lieutenant Lipski, although he had been badly shaken on the previous day by a mine explosion, requested permission to return to his unit. He reached his company as it crossed the line of departure for an attack against the enemy. Assuming command of his platoon, he led it through intense enemy artillery, mortar and small arms fire to its first objective. He then organized an assault on the second objective, running from squad to squad and shouting encouragement to his men. Under his fearless leadership, the inspired platoon attacked with such vigor that an enemy machine gun and anti-tank gun were destroyed and 30 enemy were killed or wounded. While leading the assault Lieutenant Lipski was wounded but refused to be evacuated until all other wounded members of his platoon had received treatment. The gallantry and inspirational leadership displayed by Lieutenant Lipski reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
