Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 833 (December 8, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Charles A. Link (ASN: US-55028741), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 September 1951 in the vicinity of Kach’il-bong, Korea. On that date as a platoon of Company L infiltrated the enemy lines, it was immediately encircled and attacked by a numerically superior hostile force. Sergeant Link, braving the intense hail of enemy small arms, automatic weapons, mortar, and grenade fire, went from position to position encouraging the men of his squad and assisting them in repulsing the enemy. As a result of Sergeant Link’s intrepid courage and his constant presence among the men, they were able to hold their positions and inflict numerous casualties upon the hostile force. The gallantry in action and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Link on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
