Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 3 (January 6, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Alexander Liftee (ASN: RA-10102495), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 November 1950 Private Liftee was an assistant machine gunner in his company which had the mission of contacting a Korean Marine Corps Battalion in the vicinity of Majon-ni, Korea. As the unit was moving along a narrow road it was suddenly attacked by superior enemy forces. Two rifle squads were pinned down in open terrain along with a machine gunner. Although receiving fire from three different directions, Private Liftee, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, continually exposed himself to heavy enemy fire in order to keep the machine gunner supplied with ammunition. When the machine gunner was wounded, Private Liftee took over his position and continued to place effective fire on the enemy, enabling the two exposed squads to withdraw to more favorable positions with few casualties. Only after this was accomplished did Private Liftee withdraw himself. His heroic actions on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
