The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private George F. Pond, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 15 May 1864, while serving with Company C, 3d Wisconsin Cavalry, in action at Drywood, Kansas. With two companions, Private Pond attacked a greatly superior force of guerrillas, routed them, and rescued several prisoners.
