The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Elmer E. Lee (ASN: RA-14334599), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 3d Reconnaissance Company, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 14 February 1951, in the vicinity of Tunjon-ni, Korea, an enemy force of approximately two hundred and fifty men forced the 3d Reconnaissance Company, of which Corporal Lee was a member, to withdraw to a better defensive position. The ammunition supply of the company was running low. Realizing that ammunition had to be procured, Corporal Lee made his way across open terrain through heavy enemy fire to the original company position, where he procured ammunition and returned to the company’s lines, enabling the company to drive off the enemy force with heavy casualties. His courage and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service.
