The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Arnold Lederer (ASN: RA-17269770), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 19 September 1950, when a company was assigned a mission to attack the enemy in the vicinity of Chindog-ni, Korea, Corporal Lederer volunteered to accompany the assault elements to lay telephone wire in order to maintain constant communication with the battalion command post. Headless of the intense hostile fire, he efficiently accomplished his arduous task until mortally wounded by an enemy anti-tank shell. Corporal Lederer’s conspicuous courage and exemplary devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
