Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 65 (March 24, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Stanley K. Ledbetter (ASN: RA-19337081), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 19 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. Sergeant Ledbetter’s company was attacking well-entrenched enemy positions located on high ground along the Naktong River. The forward assault elements were halted by intense fire from an enemy machine gun which threatened to inflict several casualties. Sergeant Ledbetter immediately advanced under heavy hostile fire and single-handedly assaulted the enemy emplacement, hurling hand grenades at the weapon until its crew fled in panic. His heroic charge enabled his company to resume the assault and secure its objective with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Ledbetter reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
