The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Kenneth D. Law (ASN: 0-2262339), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 13 January 1951, near Wonju, Korea. The machine gun section commanded by Lieutenant Law was attached to a rifle company which was defending vital positions near Wonju. A numerically superior enemy force launched an assault against the company. Lieutenant Law, under intense enemy automatic weapons and small arms fire, advanced to a heavy machine gun and personally manned the weapon. He took complete control of the sector and directed the fire of the men and weapons in his vicinity. The enemy concentrated their fire upon his position, delaying the entire attack. Undaunted by the heavy fire, Lieutenant Law inspired his men to hold their round against the overwhelming odds and directed his crews in delivering such devastating fire that the hostile assault was broken with heavy losses. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Law reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.

Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 119 (May 25, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Master Sergeant] Kenneth D. Law (ASN: 0-2262339), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 4 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. Lieutenant Law’s machine gun section was attached to a rifle company which was attacking an enemy-held hill. As the attack started the company came under heavy fire from an enemy machine gun located half way up the hill and at the same time enemy mortar fire fell on the attacking troops. Lieutenant Law set up one of his guns and began firing at the hostile emplacement, enabling the infantrymen, under his fire, to cross a road and start up the hill. The advance, however, was halted by the heavy enemy machine gun fire. Because of the location of the enemy emplacement, Lieutenant Law could not neutralize it with fire from his machine gun. Armed with a carbine and a hand grenade, he fearlessly advanced upon the machine gun and, under withering fire, crawled to within 20 feet of the gun. He then stood fully upright and hurled the grenade into the enemy position, destroying the weapon and killing or wounding the crew. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Law reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
