The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Kenneth D. Law (ASN: 0-2262339), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 13 January 1951, near Wonju, Korea. The machine gun section commanded by Lieutenant Law was attached to a rifle company which was defending vital positions near Wonju. A numerically superior enemy force launched an assault against the company. Lieutenant Law, under intense enemy automatic weapons and small arms fire, advanced to a heavy machine gun and personally manned the weapon. He took complete control of the sector and directed the fire of the men and weapons in his vicinity. The enemy concentrated their fire upon his position, delaying the entire attack. Undaunted by the heavy fire, Lieutenant Law inspired his men to hold their round against the overwhelming odds and directed his crews in delivering such devastating fire that the hostile assault was broken with heavy losses. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Law reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
