Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 146 (June 15, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Edward R. Lashok (ASN: RA-16275481), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 26 November 1950, in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. Leading an attack by Company E on an enemy-held hill, the 2d platoon was pinned down by enemy small arms and grenade fire. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Private Lashok crawled forward to a position from which he threw hand grenades at the well-entrenched enemy. When he exhausted his supply of grenades, he returned to his platoon for a re-supply of ammunition. Returning to his former position, Private Lashok delivered such effective fire on the enemy that the enemy concentrated his efforts on him. Private Lashok was finally killed by the intense enemy fire. The gallant conduct displayed by Private Lashok reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
