(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Sergeant Joseph Lapent, United States Army, was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy, in rescuing a man from drowning at Fort Monroe, Virginia, on 7 September 1942. The heroism displayed by Sergeant Lapent on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
