The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant First Class Lawrence A. Lane (ASN: RA-12066181), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 5 August 1950, while returning from a successful mission of clearing Sobuk-San, Korea of hostile forces, Sergeant First Class Lane’s patrol was attacked by numerically superior enemy forces. Despite the intense enemy fire directed at the platoon, Sergeant First Class Lane deployed his men and directed their fire until he was mortally wounded. By his personal example of courage and inspiring leadership, he was instrumental in effecting the total defeat of the fanatic hostile horde. Sergeant First Class Lane’s valorous actions reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
