The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal William H. Bullock (ASN: RA-11164546), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of Company C, 70th Tank Battalion (Heavy), attached to the 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy on 18 September 1950 near Waegwan, Korea. When his unit was furnishing fire support to an infantry unit attacking Hill 203, which commanded the surrounding terrain, enemy fire disabled one of the tanks. The tank of which Corporal Bullock was a crew member, was assigned the task of guarding the tank and covering the approach of a tank recovery crew. Noticing that two men of the tank recovery crew had been wounded and were lying in an area exposed to enemy mortar and small arms fire, Corporal Bullock, with conspicuous courage and complete disregard of his own safety, dismounted from the shelter of his tank and crawled 300 yards through intense enemy fire to reach the wounded men. On arrival he gave both men emergency medical aid, moved them to cover behind the disabled tank, and remained with them until friendly troops entered the area and evacuated the two wounded men. Corporal Bullock’s conspicuous gallantry and selfless conduct saved the lives of the two wounded men and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
