The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Edward Lada (ASN: ER-57502854), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 July 1951 in the vicinity of Chajakchong, Korea. On this date Sergeant Lada and his machine gun section were with Company C, when the unit attacked an enemy-held hill. Due to intense enemy fire, Company C was forced to withdraw. When some fourteen wounded men were unable to move to positions of safety, due to intense enemy fire, Sergeant Lada called for covering fire from his machine gun section while he and two comrades proceeded to aid the wounded men. With his comrades, he carried two of the wounded men, who were unable to walk and then returned to draw enemy fire while the remainder made their way to the company’s new position. The gallantry in action demonstrated by Sergeant Lada reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
