The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Louis Kriendler (ASN: 0-4500549), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, in proceeding to the front lines in an ambulance until it was put out of action and continuing to a position where he directed under fire the building of a barricade for the protection of fourteen wounded men to whom he administered medical treatment throughout the night of 28 – 29 July 1943. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
