The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Daniel Louis Kremer (ASN: US-52017979), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, gallantry in action against the enemy on 2 August 1951 in the vicinity of Shangga-hoyn, Korea. On this day a platoon sized patrol was ambushed by a numerically superior enemy force using artillery, mortar, and automatic weapons fire. In an effort to accomplish its mission, the patrol attacked the well-entrenched enemy. Private Kremer, point man in the assaulting element, outflanked the enemy and delivered accurate and deadly fire upon him. Due to heavy casualties the patrol was forced to withdraw. Disregarding his personal safety, Private Kremer remained in his position to give covering fire while the patrol withdrew to safety. He was last seen inflicting heavy casualties upon the enemy. The gallantry and devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Kremer on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
