The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Charles F. Kramsvogel (ASN: ER-36932387), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment , 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 March 1951 in the vicinity of Yulsil-li, Korea. On this date friendly units were assaulting well-fortified enemy positions. Sergeant Kramsvogel, without thought for his safety and on numerous occasions exposing himself to intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and grenade fire, successfully led his men in the attack. During this assault he was painfully wounded by enemy grenade fragments, but refused evacuation and continued to lead his men until the enemy had been vanquished. After setting up the defensive perimeter, Sergeant Kramsvogel observed a wounded member of his squad lying in an exposed position. Disregarding the intense hostile fire, he went to the aid of his comrade and carried him to safety. The gallantry in action displayed by and devotion to duty and comrades displayed by Sergeant Kramsvogel on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
