The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Victor S. Koszi, Jr. (ASN: US-52036740), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 6 October 1951 in the vicinity of Kongdong, Korea. On this date Company A was engaged in a fierce fire fight with a numerically superior enemy force. As the intensity of the hostile fire increased, several casualties were inflicted upon friendly troops. Corporal Koszi, observing his commanding officer wounded and lying in the path of the enemy fire, left his position of comparative safety, to go to his aid. Carrying the wounded officer to safety, he administered first aid which was instrumental in saving his life. Returning through the fire-swept area to retrieve the company’s radio, he carried on the operation of his unit until its objective was secured. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Koszi on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
