The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] Edward Korn, United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 121st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in action on 9 August 1944, near Dinard, France. To overcome a strong enemy position on ground overlooking the entire area, he led his platoon across an open field under heavy enemy small arms, machine gun, mortar and direct artillery fire. Despite the fury of the enemy fire, and seeing the platoon on his right flank lose its leader and the men began to waver, Lieutenant Korn reorganized them and continued with both platoons across the field. Severely wounded by mortar fire, he continued to lead the attack until he was no longer able to walk. By his gallant performance of duty, Lieutenant Korn contributed in a marked degree to the success of the attack.
