(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant George Kofira, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 25th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea in 1951. Sergeant Kofira distingusihed himself during a strong enemy attack when his platoon was covering the displacement of the remainder of his company to an alternate position. Throughout the five-hour engagement, he repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to obtain and distrube ammunition. When the enemy emplaced a machine gun on a commanding ground, Sergeant Kofira advanced to destroy the weapon with hand grenades. Sergeant Kofira’s valorous initiative, determined spirit, and inspirational devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
