The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Louis A. Klauber (ASN: RA-25120522), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 October 1951 in the vicinity of Sandanggol, Korea. On this date, friendly units were assaulting a hill well-fortified by a numerically superior enemy force. Corporal Klauber, disregarding the intense hostile fire, courageously advanced with the forward elements of his unit and fired his weapon with devastating effect. During this encounter he was painfully wounded by enemy fire but refused evacuation. Undaunted, Corporal Klauber continued in the assault, inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. As he reached the top of the objective he was again wounded by hostile shell fragments. Still refusing evacuation, Corporal Klauber remained with his squad until enemy emplacements were completely destroyed and his unit’s mission accomplished. The gallantry in action displayed by and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Klauber on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
