The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Rex J. King, United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy, at Wilmington, North Carolina, on 29 June 1941. Private First Class King saved the life of a fellow soldier who was drowning in a lake near the post. Leaping into the water, he succeeded in bringing the drowning man to shore and applying artificial respiration. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Private First Class King reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
