Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 530 (September 19, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Bennie R. King (ASN: RA-13350907), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, gallantry in action against the enemy on 30 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. During an assault upon enemy positions, the platoon of which Corporal King was a member, was pinned down by intense enemy grenade and automatic weapons fire from a well built and strategically placed bunker. Corporal King, with complete disregard for his personal safety, advanced toward the enemy, firing his automatic rifle and throwing hand grenades inflicting many casualties. As a result, the remainder of the enemy was pinned down enabling the platoon to advance and repulse him with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry in action demonstrated by Corporal King on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
