The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Arthur J. King (ASN: RA-14362047), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 31 January 1951, near Untong-dong, Korea, the 1st Platoon, Company F, 2d Battalion, had the mission of attacking Hill 425, the battalion objective, from the left flank. As his squad moved forward, Private King, heedless of his personal safety, constantly moved ahead of the other men, ignoring the withering small arms and automatic weapons fire directed at him from nearby enemy positions. Eventually, the squad became completely pinned down by the deadly enemy fire and was unable to advance further. Private King, although fully exposed to enemy observation and fire, displayed conspicuous courage and initiative, by crawling up the side of the hill through the intense fire to within range of the enemy and tossing hand grenades into enemy positions. As a result of his heroic actions the enemy was forced to abandon his positions and in so doing, many were killed by our fire. The outstanding gallantry and initiative displayed by Private King reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
