The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Stacy L. Kim (ASN: RA-38535918), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Pungchon-ni, Korea. On that date, the platoon in which he was an automatic rifleman was attacking to close a gap between his company and the unit on its flank. Private Kim laid down a devastating fire against the enemy positions in support of the attack. His fire was extremely accurate and caused numerous enemy casualties. When the platoon neared the objective, he daringly assaulted and destroyed an enemy machine gun that was slowing the advance. His bravery in the face of the intense enemy machine gun fire and his accurate supporting fire were the deciding factors in the success of the attack and his actions were an inspiration to all the men of the platoon. The gallantry displayed by Private Kim reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
