The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Wallace J. Kidd (ASN: RA-19334279), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 5 March 1951 in the vicinity of Yongnan-ni, Korea. On that date his platoon was counterattacking a hill to regain lost ground. During the fierce and bitter fighting, his squad was pinned down by intense fire from an enemy machine gun. Sergeant Kidd, armed with three hand grenades, leaped to his feet and dashed across 35 yards of fire-swept terrain. Nearing the enemy emplacement from the right flank, he hurled his grenades with such accuracy that he destroyed the hostile weapon and its crew, thereby relieving the pressure from the squad which was able to advance to the objective. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Kidd reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
