The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Paul D. Khula (ASN: US-52076136), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1951, in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date while his company was in the attack, the enemy launched a strong counterattack forcing the company to withdraw. Private Khula voluntarily exposed himself to the hostile fire to provide a rear guard action to cover his comrade’s withdrawal. His intense fire accounted for many known enemy casualties. When last seen, Private Khula was attempting to evacuate several of his wounded comrades. The gallantry in action and superlative devotion displayed by Private Khula reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
