The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Raymond F. Kellum (ASN: RA-14328186), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 3d Reconnaissance Company, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 14 February 1951, in the vicinity of Tunjon-ni, Korea, Corporal Kellum’s company was overrun by a numerically superior enemy force. The company withdrew to a nearby rice paddy and established a defensive position. When a group of the enemy-occupied a position in a ditch a short distance to the rear of the company, Corporal Kellum, realizing the hazard, and with complete disregard for his own personal safety assaulted the position. The overwhelming volume of enemy fire cut him down just short of his goal, but his intrepid actions exposed the enemy’s positions which were destroyed by Corporal Kellum’s comrades. The outstanding courage and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Kellum are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service. /1951.
