Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 244 (October 26, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Rachell (Rachael) Harris (ASN: RA-34152985), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. When the regimental command post near Haman, Korea was assaulted by a strong enemy force on the morning of 2 September 1950, Sergeant Haman’s group of outposts received the brunt of the attack. Repeatedly exposing himself to the intense enemy fire, Sergeant Harris effectively adjusted the fire of each outpost on important targets until he was mortally wounded. Sergeant Harris’ courageous leadership and unswerving devotion to duty were largely responsible for repelling the attack, and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
