The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private George H. Juneau (ASN: 16020897), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On the night of 9 November 1942, Private Juneau, having volunteered with two other enlisted men and one officer to seize and destroy enemy gun positions on the western end of the bridge northwest of Port Lyautey, crept up in the darkness to the hostile position in the face of heavy machine gun fire, where, at point blank range of 20 to 30 feet he fired four rounds from his rocket gun into the enemy position, thus destroying it and forcing the enemy to retire. The activities of this patrol resulted directly in enabling the 3d Battalion to secure its objective. Private Juneau’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
