The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Johnny F. Jordan (ASN: RA-14337434), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 2d Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 September 1950 in the vicinity of Naktong-Ni, Korea. On this date, he was a member of a group which was manning a battalion observation post which was under direct enemy mortar and machine gun fire. When it became apparent that the position was about to be overrun, he was ordered to withdraw. Realizing the importance of the information gained from his vantage point, he voluntarily remained in the observation post, killing two of the enemy and wounding several others and, when possible, relaying his observation to the Battalion Command Post. When finally forced to withdraw, he noticed that one of the officers had been seriously wounded. With Complete disregard for his safety, he dashed through the heavy enemy machine gun fire and, with the assistance of another soldier, carried the wounded officer 500 yards to a place of safety. The gallantry displayed on this occasion by Corporal Jordan reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
