The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class J. D. Jordan, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2nd Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Hoengsong, Korea, on the night of 12 February 1951. Private Jordan was riding with a convoy in a withdrawal movement, when it was ambushed by an enemy roadblock. Intense mortar, automatic weapons and small arms fire poured in on the motor convoy and set an engineer truck loaded with explosives ablaze. Several men near and with the vehicle were wounded in the initial burst of fire. Exposing himself, not only to enemy fire, but to the danger of a possible ammunition explosion, Private Jordan directed and assisted in the removal of the wounded. Again exposing himself to the intense fire of the enemy, he placed the wounded on another vehicle to be evacuated. His courageous action assisted in saving the lives of a number of men and served as an inspiration to his comrades. The heroism of Private Jordan on this occasion reflects great credit on himself and the military service.
