The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Ralph E. Jones (ASN: RA-16309737), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 29th Regimental Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 27 July 1950, while developing a defensive position in the vicinity of Anui, Korea, Corporal Jones’ company was assaulted by numerically superior hostile forces. Observing that an enemy machine gun was going into action approximately fifty yards away under cover of he intense enemy barrage, Corporal Jones expertly directed the fire of his automatic rifle at the position. By his alert attention to duty, he was instrumental in eliminating great danger to his platoon. Corporal Jones’ courageous initiative reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Army.
